UFC 130 – Rampage vs Hamill Results

by admin on May 29, 2011

Matt Hamill talked about breaking Jackson’s will, but all he broke was the will of the spectators to watch more.

Jackson after breaking his hand fought anyway. And it appeared that way, as he didn’t end up landing to many punches the rest of the fight, though he clearly won.

Former UFC champ Rampage Jackson would stalk and then Hamill would occasionally try a half-hearted takedown. Rampage Jackson would stuff all of them with no difficulty and then landed several good strikes in the fight just to discourage Hamill.

Though it was still a win, it was hardly a great fight for Jackson as he will be going on for the title fight against light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Though Jackson did bloody Hamill’s mouth, he never did land any big shots.

“I expected him to try to take me down,” Jackson said. “I had him rocked there, but I couldn’t capitalize. I wanted to get a knock out for the fans, but I also wanted to make sure I got the win. I wanted to dominate him for saying he was going to break my will. I think I put on a good performance and was ready for him trying to take me down.”

“I was a little shocked by Rampage’s hips and his ability to defend the takedown,” Hamill said. “I wanted to bait him in so that I could secure the double leg. He defended well and was strong just like we expected. Hats off to Rampage. He fought a really smart fight.”

In this Mix Martial Arts video UFC vet Jeff “The Inferno” Joslin shares his opinion on what he feels is the most important training tip of all. “Mastering the Basics First.”

When training for an MMA fight, a fighter has to focus on a number of factors. The obvious concerns are speed, stamina, strength, power, agility, and flexibility. Stand-up fighting focuses on training a fighter’s ability in punching, kicking, elbowing, and kneeing in order to go toe-to-toe with an opponent while exchanging blows. Clinch fighting is also an integral part of the MMA fighter basics, because it allows a fighter to reduce the success of his opponent’s kicks, punches, knees, elbows, or any combination of actions by tying him up and restricting his movements and performance. The ground game is another important element of an MMA fighter. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is known as the best to define the ground game, and this is why virtually all MMA fighters train in it. Keep in mind fitness training is crucial, as it will train a fighter to be able to go the distance in a fight and help him maintain his endurance for the maximum number of rounds.
